Making Piupiu at Discovery Learning Time

On Friday mornings after morning tea, Room 11 and 12 get together for Discovery Learning Time. It is a learning time when we practise the Key Competences which help us to become independent thinkers and learners.  It is a time when we use our creativity and problem solve during activities and when we learn how to work along side and with other students.  It is a time when we respectfully ask for things we need to share with others.

Last Friday we made our own piupiu out of newspaper as part of our learning about the different cultures within our school community.  We finished off some of the art work that is now on display in the Art Exhibition in Rooms 13 and 14.  Everyone is invited to come into school anytime of the day to see the amazing art work the children in our school have created.

Koru Kiwis

As part of our unit looking at different cultures, we have been learning about the importance of the Koru and Kiwi for New Zealanders. We have practised drawing different koru shapes. Here are our finished artwork "Koru Kiwis in the Moonlit Night". Haven't the children done a stunning job!!

Fast Words
We have been working on writing words quickly with a buddy. Today we were working on the "at"rhyming words. Here are some photos of us working together on our learning. 

Ordering numbers to 20

Today for our maths number warm up, we were given a card with a number between 1 and 20. Our job was to search for the other people in Room 11 who had the number before and after our number so we could order the numbers forwards and backwards to 20. Mrs Fritchley was impressed by how the children could read the numbers and could work together. Here are some photos of our problem solving.

Super Story Writing

Room 11 are working hard to add interesting describing words in our Story Writing. They are called adjectives. Here is Sophie Wahl's story where she has worked hard to describe her teddy bear.

We are lucky to have Mrs Symonds come into Room 11 and teach us some Te Reo action songs. We are learning the rakau stick action song. Here is a video of us practising. Aren't we fabulous!!

If I were a Butterfly Song

On Friday it is Junior Mass in the Maria Madonna chapel at 9:15am. We have been practising this beautiful song to sing on Friday. Here is the link if you want to practise it at home.
